Sector Arts & Culture, Hospitality

The Hub is a Newtown landmark. The modernist venue has a rich history as a much-loved theatre and cinema, but in recent decades it’s fallen into disrepair. We are proposing to restore this heritage listed building and add a variety of spaces so a new generation of people can enjoy its civic charms.

Our sensitive design comprises a full architectural and interior refurbishment of the art deco theatre to transform it into an arts centre fit for the 21st century. The majority of the building will be dedicated to public use, with new theatre and events spaces as well as a vibrant café and rooftop bar and restaurant.

The revitalized Hub Theatre will re-activate Bedford St public square, bringing an end to decades of disrepair. The much-loved Art Deco building will be lovingly restored and enhanced, including the box office hall, with its pink granite staircases and ornate metalwork. A new mix of uses invite the public to interact with the building, while also providing state of the are facilities.
